Mathematics and Art (part 2)

What is recursion? Is it only Mathematical? Where can it be found? If you look closely at the picture on the left you'll see a fascinating exemplification of recursion. Note how the picture occurs as an element of itself.

This is in much the same way as a recursive function will feature within its own definition.

For example this is a recursive function; where S(x) = x + 1 is the successor function. It defines the function for multiplying x by y.

See if you can think of an example of a recursive function. The one above is a bit tricky; don't be scared to think simply.
